OntarioMD Peer Leaders have several years of EMR experience that practices can leverage to advance the quality of patient data in their EMRs to deliver better care and increase practice efficiency. Currently, there are over 50 Peer Leaders across the province who are expert users of the OntarioMD-certified EMRs and capable in assisting practices to develop plans that will lead to tangible practice enhancements.

Dr. Paul Cano

Dr. Cano retired in 2020 after 30 years of rural comprehensive family medicine in Niagara (Smithville and Grimsby). He continues to provide Hospitalist, Obstetrics, and Surgical Assists in his home community and is doing intermittent family practice locums in the north. He led his Family medicine group through EMR implementation (1999) and EMR migration (2006). The committees he has served on include ones for Primary Care EMR certification, Canada Health Infoway, and currently the eServices Steering Committee. He served as a primary preceptor for the McMaster Rural Family Medicine Residency Program and continues as its Faculty Development Coordinator.  Paul is a local leader for changes such as implementation of an Alternate Payment Plan at the Grimsby Emergency Department, transition of his practice to a Family Health Network, starting a Hospitalist program, and Open access appointment booking. He is currently the Family Medicine Lead for the Epic implementation at Hamilton Health Sciences.
Dr. Jeffrey Dennison

Dr. Jeffrey Dennison graduated from the University of Ottawa in 1993 and completed his family medicine residency at Toronto East General Hospital in 1995. He has practiced in Windsor, Ontario since 1997 as a comprehensive care family physician and currently serves as the Lead Physician of the Windsor Family Health Organization. Dr. Dennison is also an Adjunct Professor of Family Medicine at the Schulich School of Medicine and is active in teaching medical students and residents. He has prior experience as a clinical trials investigator. Dr. Dennison has a keen interest in health information technology and has worked as a Peer Leader with OntarioMD since 2011. He has assisted many local physicians with adoption and optimization of their EMR software. Dr. Dennison views EMR use as an essential tool in managing complex chronic health care in primary care.
Dr. Harpreet Arora

Dr. Arora is the Lead IT Physician at his family health team practice, with a strong focus on IT integration and process efficiency. His passion lies in improving workflows not only through technology but also in the daily operations of healthcare delivery. As the lead physician for the process task force, he collaborates with physicians and allied health professionals alike to streamline clinical operations. Dr. Arora is an advisor on both PrescribeIT and the eHealth Centre of Excellence, contributing to advancing digital health solutions.An early adopter of AI technology in healthcare, Dr. Arora has successfully integrated AI scribes into his clinical practice to enhance documentation efficiency. He has trialed four different AI scribes to date and uses ChatGPT Pro to assist in creating templates and expediting administrative tasks such as filling out forms. His practice has utilized online booking systems for over a decade and leverages tools like check-in kiosks integrated with CHIME software for patient rooming. Dr. Arora’s clinic also uses Phelix software to manage and organize incoming reports by harnessing AI to label and categorize them efficiently.Additionally, Dr. Arora made the transition from Oscar Classic to Oscar Pro early on, recognizing the operational efficiencies gained through the upgraded platform. His practice also uses Ocean Cognisant for patient surveys and email communication. With his experience in health IT and process management, Dr. Arora is dedicated to optimizing the use of Oscar EMR and other integrated technologies to improve clinical workflows.
Dr. Louisa Shan

Dr. Louisa Shan is a family physician in Waterloo, who also serves as the physician lead at University of Waterloo Health Services. She has completed medical school and residency at the University of Toronto. She is familiar with Accuro, Telus Practice Solutions, and Cerner through practicing in a broad range of settings including family practice, student health, urgent care, and hospitals. She is passionate about making best practices intuitive for clinicians. To this end, she has served on digital health committees and created custom order sets. She enjoys sharing EMR pearls with clinicians to optimize workflows and reduce administrative burdens. On a broader scale, Dr. Shan hopes to bring a clinical perspective to the design of digital tools, and to develop solutions that will improve information flow and reduce fragmentation within the healthcare system.

Dr. Usha Parthasarathi

Dr. Parthasarathi is an experienced psychiatrist with an extensive educational background and a wealth of experience in the field of mental health. Graduating with an MBBS from Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, India, in 2000, Dr. Parthasarathi completed her psychiatry training in Cambridge, UK, and a fellowship in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry and Mood Disorders at McMaster University. She has held numerous prestigious positions, including Director at Peacock Clinic, a Virtual Mental Health Multidisciplinary Clinic. Currently, she serves as a Consultant Psychiatrist at eHealth Ontario, several Family Health Teams (FHT) Clinics, and the Canadian Armed Forces. Dr. Parthasarathi has also been actively involved in administrative and academic roles, serving as a Peer Assessor for the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario and a peer support person for the Ontario Medical Association (OMA). Additionally, she has held academic positions at McMaster University. With a strong commitment to the field of psychiatry, Dr. Parthasarathi continues to make significant contributions through clinical practice, education, and community involvement.
Dr. Mario Elia

Dr. Mario Elia is a family physician from London, Ontario, and is an adjunct professor in the Department of Family Medicine at Western University. In addition to his work as an OntarioMD Peer Leader, he is a writer and physician advisor with the Medical Post. Dr. Elia presently serves on the OntarioMD EMR Physician Dashboard Advisory Group and the OMA Primary Health Care Advisory Group. He also contributed as a physician advisor for the Childhood Obesity Tool with the Centre for Effective Practice. He has extensive experience with the TELUS PS Suite EMR, which he has used since 2012, optimizing workflow and clinical processes. He presents regularly at the OntarioMD EMR: Every Step Conference around the topic of Cancer Survivor Follow-Up in Primary Care.
Dr. Braedon Hendy

Dr. Braedon Hendy is a practicing family physician in the region surrounding Windsor, Ontario. He completed his Bachelor's and Master of Science at Western University, focusing on novel methods to help lower the financial burden of treatments for various diseases.  As a family medicine graduate of the Windsor-based residency program, Dr. Hendy continues to work within the community as an emergency room physician and hospitalist.  He is currently the Primary Care Lead for the Erie St. Clair Regional Cancer Program and is the Vice President of Professional Staff at Erie Shores Health Care.  As an OntarioMD Peer Leader, Dr. Hendy is passionate about improving technology and assisting practitioners with their practice.  Since 2001, he has served in the Canadian Armed Forces and is currently a Medical Officer.  
Dr. Cody Jackson

Dr. Cody Jackson is a family physician working in London, Ontario. He has a keen interest in digital health, medical education, and medical innovation. Dr. Jackson is currently using OSCAR but will be transitioning to CHR and has experience working with Accuro. Dr. Jackson has a Master of Education and is active faculty at Western University. He also has positions on multiple OMA working groups and is involved in family physician recruitment projects in Ontario. His research has focused on digital health, infectious disease diagnostic protocols, patient portals, app development, e-handover tools, and electronic resource sharing platforms.
Dr. Manisha Mulgund

Dr. Manisha Mulgund is a graduate of the McMaster University Rheumatology program. She works as a community rheumatologist in Hamilton, Ontario, and also as an acute care hospitalist at Trillium Health Partners Mississauga. She has used EMR's including Accuro from which she moved over to the Indivicare platform. She has experience in EMR migration. She has been the EMR peer leader (for OSCAR users) and is also part of the informatics committee in the Ontario Rheumatology Association. She believes in patient-centric health care and has developed a free digital app "Arthritis + patient",  for patients with inflammatory arthritis to educate and self-manage their condition. She advocates for timely access to health care and firmly believes digital health tools will help accomplish this. 
Dr. Vineet Nair

Dr. Vineet Nair is a family physician and Lead Physician of the Core London Family Health Organization (FHO) in London, Ontario. Vineet has been involved in quality improvement initiatives ever since attending his first Institute of Health Care Improvement (IHI) conference in 2008. Dr. Nair has written and presented on Advanced Access Scheduling, EMR Usage, and Primary Care Reform – which continue to be areas of interest for him. Dr. Nair has had personal experience with multiple EMRs, and has transitioned from a paper-based practice to EMR (in BC), started a practice on an EMR since its inception, and transitioned from one EMR to another. Dr. Nair has been an OntarioMD Peer Leader since 2009.
Ibrahim Omar

Ibrahim Omar is a Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner (NP) and a Peer Leader at OntarioMD. With a Master of Science in Nursing and certification as a Primary Care Nurse Practitioner, Ibrahim has been a primary health care practitioner in an NP-led clinic in Kitchener-Waterloo for more than five years. He currently works at Kitchener Downtown Community Health Centre and also provides locum coverage to a number of primary care providers in the area. Ibrahim's diplomas in computer software provide him with the background to be an EMR “Super User” in his practice, as well as help a number of practices with their EMR use and optimization through the OntarioMD Peer Leader Program. Ibrahim has also had the privilege of being part of several committees and projects with eHealth Ontario, Cancer Care Ontario, local committees in the Kitchener-Waterloo area and EMR utilization committees within his practice.

Dr. Daniel Pepe is a comprehensive family physician from London, Ontario. His leadership interests and work are focused on collaborating with system partners to establish primary care as the foundation of our health system. He is currently the Co-Chair of the London-Middlesex Primary Care Alliance and Medical Advisor for the Middlesex London Paramedic Service, Community Paramedicine Division.
Dr. Neil Rittenhouse

Dr. Rittenhouse is a family physician with the Maitland Valley FHT/FHO. He also works in the emergency department and intrapartum obstetrics at Alexandra Marine & General Hospital, ER at Stratford General Hospital, and has served as Medical Director for the Healthy Hearts Cardiac Rehabilitation program. He is an Adjunct Faculty at Western and regularly teaches medical students and residents. Prior to medicine, he trained as an engineer and continually strives to optimize EMR use and efficiency.
Frank Ruberto

Mr. Ruberto has an extensive background in Health Care Management and Office Administration with over 23 years of experience with the Niagara Medical Group. He has been in leadership roles for 16 years and is currently the Chair of the P&P Community of Practice through OntarioMD. As the FHT Executive Director, he has been involved in various projects supporting the transition from Health Service Organization (HSO) to Primary Care Network (PCN) to Family Health Organization (FHO) and to FHT (Family Health Team) including development of programs, community liaising, networking, and program analysis for reporting, research and budgeting purposes. He has used many EMR platforms since 1998, including; CIS, MedAble, EPIC, EMH Ware, Sorian, TELUS Practice Solutions, OSCAR, Accuro EMR and MediTech. As an experienced EMR user, Mr. Ruberto is actively mentoring clinicians on better reporting practices and data quality for practice improvement.  Mr. Ruberto is also the co-Lead of the Digital Health Working Group for the Niagara Ontario Health Team - Equipe Sante Ontario Niagara.
Dr. Kevin Samson

Dr. Samson is a family physician. He is also an Electrical Engineer specializing in computer programming and biomedical engineering and has been actively involved in the development and application of digital health solutions throughout his career. In this regard, he has had active roles with a number of provincial and national organizations including AFHTO, Diabetes Action Canada, the eHealth Centre of Excellence, Ontario Health, the Centre for Effective Practice, and Healthcare Excellence Canada.He is the Chair of the OntarioMD TELUS Practice Solutions Community of Practice and the Digital Health Lead for the Guelph Wellington OHT.Dr. Samson received the 2019 inaugural Canada Health Informatics Clinical Innovator award which recognizes a clinical innovator who has shown outstanding leadership in Canada in advancing the use of Digital Health or Virtual Health in clinical practice resulting in improved provider and patient experiences and outcomes.
Dr. Kellie Scott

Dr. Kellie Scott is a Family Physician with experience working in long-term care and palliative home care in St. Thomas, ON.   She is an adjunct faculty at the University of Western Ontario, Department of Family Medicine.  Dr. Scott has been an avid EMR user since the start of her practice in 2006. She has also been through an EMR conversion and is now using Telus EMR. She also participates in local, regional and system-level primary care leadership with an interest in integrated care and practice facilitation.
Dr. Keith Thompson

Dr. Thompson is a London Ontario based family physician,  graduate of the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry at Western University and awarded Fellowship Canadian College Family Practice in 2005.  Chief Medical Officer for Nuralogix.He is Board Certified Medical Affairs specialist. He is Adjunct Faculty Professor with the departments of Family Medicine and Associate Director of Research for the Institute for Earth and Space Exploration at Western University in London Ontario. He also serves at Western as Co-investigator  virtual care studies, and PI for another resident study on virtual care. He is Medical Mentor for the Medical Innovation Fellowship program at WORLDiscoveries and serves as one of their Innovation Ambassadors.He was one of the initial Canadian Physicians hired to consult with the Teladoc/BestDoctors Canada start-up team in February of 2018 and worked as CMO for iTelemed- a telemedicine startup in  London Ontario, prior to his recent appointment with Nuralogix. He is a current working Group member  for IEEE SA telehealth Industry Connections, member  IEEE SA committee for cuffless BP devices PAR 1708, Working Group member for Standards Council of Canada ISO 81060 Mirror committee standards for BP measurement devices,  Ehealth WG  executive member World Congress of Family Doctors (WONCA), and  member of C.D. Howe Institute as contributor in virtual care and digital health expert.
Dr. Philip Vandewalle

Dr. Philip Vandewalle is a family physician and is currently Chief of Medicine at Middlesex Hospital Alliance – Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital Site. Previously, he was the Head of Perinatal and Pediatrics at the same hospital. He has a comprehensive practice, working at one of the local long-term care homes (where he is Medical Director), in the ER, on the in-patient floors (where he is head of the hospitalist program), in the obstetrics department and in his family practice office. Dr. Vandewalle also teaches at the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry, Western University, where he is a full-time Assistant Professor. Since graduating more than 25 years ago, he has had a keen interest in EMRs. He and his group of fellow doctors were one of the first groups in the area to adopt an EMR in 1995. Dr. Vandewalle has been a Peer Leader for OntarioMD since its early days and he continues to have a strong interest in advancing the use of the EMRs. He is always ready to embrace the latest functionality in EMRs. He is keenly interested in using the EMR as a tool to improve patient outcomes. Dr. Vandewalle has been part of the Better Outcomes Registry & Network (BORN) initiative with his current EMR and sends data to the BORN Information System via his EMR.

Central (LHIN 5 - 9, 12)

Dr. Vandana Ahluwalia
Specialist - Rheumatology
Brampton / Accuro
Dr. Vandana Ahluwalia is the past Chief of the Rheumatology Division of the William Osler Health System in Brampton, Ontario. She is a graduate of Queen’s University and completed her medical training at the University of Toronto Medical School. She did her Internal Medicine training and Rheumatology fellowship at U of T with a subsequent research fellowship focus on lupus. She sees patients in her Brampton community practice as well as in the combined Rheumatology/Orthopedics MSK clinic at Brampton Civic Hospital. She continues to be actively involved in clinical trials and studies related to inflammatory arthritis and has co-authored various articles within this therapeutic area. She is a keen proponent of models of care in Rheumatology and is a published researcher in this field. Dr. Ahluwalia held the position of President of the Ontario Rheumatology Association (ORA) from 2010-2012 and just finished her tenure as President of the Canadian Rheumatology Association (CRA) in February 2020.  She continues to sit on the board of the CRA as the past- President. In 2012, Dr. Ahluwalia received the “Community Rheumatologist of the Year” award by the University of Toronto, Rheumatology Division. In May 2016, she was further recognized for her pioneering work in models of care (MOC) and electronic medical records (EMR) adoption and received the “Rheumatologist of the Year award” by the Ontario Rheumatology Association. In 2017, she received the “Philanthropy award” presented by the William Osler Health System Foundation for her successful fundraising efforts supporting the hospital and patient care.
Dr. Jason Baker

Dr. Jason Baker is a family physician and emergency physician with an interest in care of the elderly. An early adopter of EMRs, Dr. Baker opened his first paperless office right out of residency in 1997 and maintains his “Super User” status today. Dr. Baker is the Lead Physician of MyFamilyMD, a medical clinic in midtown Toronto. He is a staff emergency physician at the University Health Network, working both at the Toronto Western Hospital and Toronto General Hospital sites. In addition, Dr. Baker is the house physician for two retirement homes and the school physician for Upper Canada College. He is also a lecturer at the University of Toronto and regularly teaches residents and medical students both in his office and in the ER. Between his clinical duties, Dr. Baker very much enjoys his work with OntarioMD – educating fellow physicians on the power of their EMR and helping colleagues discover new ways to improve workflow and office efficiency.
Stephen Beckwith

Stephen Beckwith has over two decades of experience as a healthcare leader. He is the CEO/Executive Director of the South East Toronto Family Health Team, a prominent multi-site academic Family Health Team. Stephen fosters a collaborative, team-based care environment in this role and supports new learners. He is committed to ensuring that physicians and other healthcare professionals have ample opportunities to engage in team-based care and adopt solutions that enhance efficiency. Stephen's extensive experience spans various healthcare sectors, including emergency services, specialty clinics, inpatient care, and primary care. He has played a significant role in implementing multiple ministry initiatives and is focused on improving efficiency within the healthcare system. Stephen holds a Master’s in Health Leadership and is a Certified Health Executive with the Canadian College of Health Leaders. He promotes team-based care through Ontario Health Teams and contributes to several boards and committees. For over ten years, he has been a respected Ontario MD peer leader, known for his expertise in change management and dedication to enhancing healthcare delivery.

Dr. Harvey Blankenstein

Dr. Harvey Blankenstein is a comprehensive care family physician practicing at the North York Family Health Team (NYFHT) in Toronto. He is an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto’s Department of Family and Community Medicine and has been teaching medical learners/residents for over 25 years. He is the former President of the Medical Staff Association at North York General Hospital (NYGH) as well as the former Undergraduate Director and past Quality Improvement Co-Lead in the Department of Family and Community Medicine, NYGH and NYFHT. Dr. Blankenstein has been the Medical Consultant to the Primary Care Branch at the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care and has been a committee member of the Primary and Community Care Committee at the OMA. He has been a member of the e-Health Council for the Central LHIN and a member of the Inquiries, Complaints, and Reports Committee at the CPSO. Dr. Blankenstein has been a member of the Information Management/Information Technology Committee of the NYFHT that was instrumental in facilitating the transition and migration from one EMR to another. He is LEAN Six Sigma Green Belt certified and can help deploy the Six Sigma techniques to lead small-scale improvement projects.
Dr. Mark Boulos

Dr. Mark Boulos is a full-time academic neurologist at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto, and Graduate Faculty at the School for Graduate Studies at the University of Toronto. He completed medical school, a residency in Adult Neurology, fellowships in stroke and sleep neurology, as well as a Master's degree that investigated the relationship of stroke with sleep disorders all at the University of Toronto. He serves as the EMR Physician Lead for the Division of Neurology at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, and his work has facilitated widespread adoption of the Accuro EMR. Moreover, he has led several quality improvement initiatives as well as the use of the Accuro EMR for various research purposes. Furthermore, he has been involved in the development and maintenance of several interfaces that have allowed the Accuro EMR to integrate seamlessly with Sunnybrook's in-house EMR.
Dr. Salesh Budhoo

Dr. Salesh Budhoo is a family physician in Mississauga, Ontario. Dr. Budhoo has 20 years of comprehensive experience as a physician. He currently practices family medicine at the Pearl Family Practice and is the Medical Director of Pearl Medical Aesthetics, both in Mississauga, Ontario. He obtained his medical degree from the University of South Africa in 1999. He was a Peer Leader for the Nova Scotia Primary Healthcare Information Management (PHIM) Program while working in Nova Scotia.
Dr. Noah Crampton

Dr. Noah Crampton is a family physician at Toronto Western Family Health Team in Toronto. After graduating, he pursued a career as a clinician-researcher because he knew that digital technologies would likely transform his career as an early-stage clinician. Today, he is working diligently to advance the field of EMRs as an effective method of improving quality of care across populations. Specifically, he is a lecturer at the University of Toronto with expertise in the EMR aggregator database UTOPIAN and is the co-chair of the digital health planning table for the Mid-West Ontario Health Team.
Dr. Loredana Di Santo

Dr. Loredana Di Santo has been an OntarioMD Peer Leader since 2015. She received her medical degree from Western University in 2003. She earned Certification in Family Medicine in 2005 and was awarded Fellowship in the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) in 2016. She is the Primary Care Lead for the Western York Region Ontario Health Team and Chief of Family Practice at Mackenzie Health. In her leadership roles, Dr. Di Santo is a strong advocate for digital health integration that enables seamless, high-quality care and improves both the patient and provider experience. 
Dr. Sharon Domb

Dr. Sharon Domb is a family physician, the Physician IT Lead at Sunnybrook Family Practice, and an Associate Professor at the University of Toronto. As a Peer Leader with OntarioMD since 2009, she has provided guidance to numerous other academic and community groups on their EMR implementations and enhanced functionality. She has served as the Co-Chair of the EMR Users Group at the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Toronto, and has been a member of numerous digital health committees, both nationally and provincially. With over 25 years of clinical experience in the academic environment, Dr. Domb is well-versed with the numerous factors that contribute to complex EMR implementations, including educational requirements, custom interfaces with hospital IT systems, and integrating with hospital IT policies.
Dr. Dahlia Balaban

Dr. Dahlia Balaban is a Family Physician in North York with active licenses in Ontario and Northwest Territories. She is the Lead Physician and former IT Lead for the North York FHO, part of the North York Family Health Team, and Continuing Medical Education Lead for the Department of Family Medicine at North York General Hospital. She practices comprehensive ambulatory Family Medicine with the addition of low-risk Obstetrics, Surgical Assisting, Hospitalist Medicine and home-based Palliative Care. While she co-runs a primary care practice in North York, she also enjoys working as a locum in more rural settings. She is a lecturer with the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Toronto and teaches clinical medicine at the Undergraduate and Resident levels. She is passionate about workflow optimization and finding ways for technology to make her life as a physician easier and more efficient.

Dr. Leah Feldman is a community family physician with a practice based out of Thornhill, Ontario. She trained at McGill University and has experience in business development, computer programming and website development since a young age. During medical school she co-founded and designed the website for MedCoach, a company designed to help pre-med students enter medical school. She has the most experience with OSCAR and is passionate about helping others understand their practice needs and get the most efficient functions out of their EMR.

Jonathan Fowler is an EMR System Administrator at St. Joseph's Health Centre Urban Academic Family Health Team (FHT) in Toronto, and a Peer Leader with OntarioMD. Dr. Ilana Halperin

Dr. Halperin is an endocrinology specialist, a full-time staff physician and an Assistant Professor at the Sunnybrook Health Science Centre, where she teaches residents and medical students about quality and innovation. Dr. Halperin strives to improve the coordination of care for high users of the health care system and continues to work on improving the care of young women with diabetes prior to, during, and after pregnancy. Dr. Halperin obtained her medical degree from the University of Western Ontario and completed her internal medicine and endocrinology training from the University of Toronto. Roger Mandjlekian received his Bachelor of Science in Biology at York University in 1999, and began his career as owner and operator of a small business franchise. In 2005, he used his entrepreneurial skills and science background to start the Gates of Maple Family Practice in Vaughan.
